Initiated as a permanent response to the destruction in the south, the Montserrat government began constructing generic and simple neighborhoods on the infertile and unused lands of the north. Recent construction also includes the new airport and other useful facilities to the rebuilding of the island’s infrastructure.

“I live presently at Lookout….I was formerly living at Windy Hill, that is the Eastern side of the island. But to the volcanic eruption, we had to evacuate…”

“Everybody cannot leave, somebody has to stay and help the rebuilding process.”

“…Yeah it has changed, it has changed quite a lot over here on this side, because I remember in the 80s, early 90s, there were very very few homes on the north side of the island, you know…”
