Perilous Times
by: Daunelle Roach

It all began on July 18
The volcano started to vent
Sending ash and steam high in the air
On August Monday there was a big explosion
Rocks from God’s slingshot seen in Long Ground
The Chief Minister called for evacuation
This evacuation brought more frustration
I went to Olveston
Some went to Woodlands and St. Peter’s
Others went to St. John’s and Salem
People crowded the North
Some people stayed with their families
Other stayed with friends
Schools and churches were home for many
We are at home now
But we still live in fear
When, when is the end near?

Danger Sign

Volcanic Dangers
by: Joannah Richards

I have often heard our volcano’s dead
But that’s not a true thing that was said
Volcanoes are very dangerous
Sometimes they are outrageous
Volcanoes are not to trust
They let off alot of dust
Volcanis activities are very frustratine
Especially when evacuating
And if it happens that it blows
Poisonous gases get into your nose
The rumbling of the volcano is hard
It makes you want to run out of your yard
The rumbling is very, very noisy
It wants to drive you crazy
They lava can kill and destroy
Man, Woman, Girl and Boy
It melts big things and small
It also melts short things and tall
When the Soufriere hills are quiet once more
Don’t say volcanoes are dead, that’s a lie for sure.
