Shantey was born in Rhode Island on August 17, 1992. She moved to New York and then to Steelton, however her memories are only of Steelton. Shantey lives in a yellow house, which she describes as “nice, it gives me shelter, and I have a nice place to sleep.”
She lives with her mother and aunt. Her dad, “moved away with his girlfriend.” Shantey’s home has a back yard, which she enjoys because it “is somewhere to play hula hoop and jump rope.”
Shantey also has a park near her home. She says that she does not go there often because she “usually doesn’t go outside, it’s boring.” Shantey explained that she enjoys reading, watching movies, playing with her Barbie’s, and her toy horse. Her favorite books include the “Harry Potter” books, Cat in the Hat, books about dogs, and “other sorts of books.”
Shantey loves spending time with her mother and her aunt. She enjoys going to New Bloomfield, to the mall, where she can shop. In Steelton, one of Shantey’s favorite things is pizza. “I like Papa John’s.” She also told us that she likes “Naples Pizza because they make it good.” Her favorite is pepperoni and cheese pizza.
Along with pizza, Shantey also enjoys going to The Boys’ and Girls’ Club because “It’s fun. There are lots of things to do. I like playing Ping-Pong, playing with my friends and I like going into the computer room.” Shantey is also a cheerleader; she explained that “being a cheerleader is very special to me.”
Shantey attends The Steelton-Highspire Elementary School, however she told us that she does not like it. “Teachers are mean and you get homework.” She also explained that at school, “there are always bad things there, kids cuss and fight.” Despite these feelings, she has a favorite teacher, Miss Niece. Miss Niece is a reading teacher and a language arts teacher. Shantey likes her because “She’s not mean and I like to read.” In the future Shantey wants to be a veterinarian because she likes animals.
