on the future… I want to be a veterinarian…I want to be a veterinarian because I love animals.
on animals…  [My dog was] Negro.  Negro means black.  Then Negro died.  He got hit by a car.  Then I went to Florida.  My aunt, she bought me a fish, those different colored fish.  And then I think my mom forgot to feed it and it was just sitting there and she told me she flushed it down the toilet. And then I got a new dog and then that was Patches because she had lots of Patches.  And then last year, I was going to Rhode Island to visit my family and she died.
on her mom…  My mom is very nice…We go to New Bloomfield.  We go shopping. We go to the mall.  We go eat pizza.  We go to my grandmom’s. We go visit our relatives.  We go do everything together.
on friends…  He is Ronell.  He is special to me because he and his sister and his little brother were my friends ever since I was in kindergarten. And me and my friend Ranikwa, we’re still in the same class.
on reading…  I like to read all sorts of books.  I like to read Harry Potter.  I like to read, um, Cat in the Hat books.  I like to read, um, dog books and all sorts of kind of books.
on playing…  I play at the park by my house, but I usually don’t come outside because it’s boring… I don’t play inside.  I just watch TV or read, but when I go up to New Bloomfield with my aunt, we go all sorts of places. We go to bowling.  We go to this place.  It has all kinds of games and stuff.

Shantey's HouseQ...What’s this next one?
Shantey…This is my house… It’s taller than that but I didn’t have enough room.
Q…Why is it important to you?
Shantey…It’s important to me because it gives me shelter and I have a nice place to sleep.

Steel MillQ…What’s that?
Shantey…The steel mill.  The steel mill is important to me because it makes us steel and it keeps us warm in the wintertime.
Q…Does anyone in your family work in the steel mill.
Shantey…My uncle Bill.

Fager's StoreQ…Do you remember why you took that picture?
Shantey…This is special to me because my team…well, I’m a cheerleader and I think we get our uniforms from there and we get our trophy.
