thoughts..
on girls and boys… Mostly all the other girls are my girlfriends [but] I don’t like them, they always call on me. They ask me to do their homework and stuff.
on playing… Sports and play station and, um, kid stuff… We play in safe places…in the backyard, in distance of your mom screaming for you.
on the future… [I want to] be a bicycle man…to be one of them guys on TV…BMX.
on religion… Jesus is the way. It is true. [I learned it in] church.
on friends… This is Tyrell. Sometimes he annoys me but…he introduced me to people. My friend Zach….He is the one that came down to the office and got me whenever I was in [trouble]…and we were good friends. This is my other friend; his name is…Laurence, and he’s cool. Sometimes he annoys me but I gotta deal with it.
on family… We’re so close…every month we have our family meeting and we got to get everything out and tell the truth and that is what I don’t like.
on being in front of the camera… I don’t like it…because I get embarrassed in front of cameras.
Q… What’s this?
Tommy… This is the corner of my school.
Q… So talk about your school why did you take the picture? Why is it important?
Tommy… Because it’s important, cause I get education from it and I wouldn’t go to college if I didn’t have it.
Q… So you want to go to college?
Tommy… Yeah.
Tommy… This is Ms.Kelly. She is very, very important to me. She is the one who, um, told me about this and told me to, um, come here and it is a safe place for kids to come to. And that is it.
Q… What is this?
Tommy… This is our sooty stairs. You can see the whole town from it. Mostly the town but um, and it’s huge and the steps if you fell, you would probably get broken bones. And that’s it.
Q… So, do you think they are important to the town, the steps?
Tommy… Yeah.
