Water, Drought, and Arizona's Future

Water, Drought, and Arizona’s Future

While, recovering from our intense hike in Saguaro this afternoon, I came across a great article in Slate about drought and water planning, specifically in Tucson and Arizona.

When we hiked with Professor Vetter this morning, he explained much of the contemporary water crisis in the Tucson region, and when I came across this article, it was too perfect. Currently, there’s a broad conversation happening about the future of life and development in the American Southwest. With Climate Change advancing, water consumption increasing, the need for agriculture expanding, and water supply decreasing, Holthaus (the author) poses some essential questions:

How to balance economic growth and environment? Does fairness mean cities get first dibs over farmers, even though they were here first? Is climate change a game changer?

Professor Vetter even mentioned offhand the rainstorm Holthaus references! I had to share it.

This article is a month long series about draught in the American Southwest, written by  for Slate Magazine.
